Jun Kitazawa was born in Tokyo in 1988. He completed his doctoral program at Tokyo University of the Arts. He is a director of Jun Kitazawa Office Yakumo LLC, Tokyo, and Studio Belimbing in Yogyakarta.Currently, Kitazawa is a guest lecturer at the Department of Anthropology, Gajah Mada University.
As an artist, Kitazawa is also frequently involved in various fieldwork, in and outside Japan. His main concern is to build an imagined society by presenting process-based work as an artistic approach. His projects often involve people from diverse backgrounds as collaborative partners. In 2019 he initiated the NOWHERE OASIS project by bringing ‘angkringan’ (mobile food stalls that can be found all over the city of Yogyakarta) to Tokyo and making them appear all over the city. The angkringan were filled with Indonesians living in Japan.To them, the streets of Tokyo seem to like spaces that lack freedom. The project created a time when 'Oasis is Now here' in a society where 'Oasis is Nowhere’.
