Statement

Indonesia is a country of tropical islands. This land, which is supposed to be a treasure house of diversity, is in turmoil. The political situation is in turmoil, the capital city continues to be developed, terrorism does not abate, and demonstrations do not stop. My skin trembles as it is touched by the unpredictable world.

But the vagaries of the tropics won't allow me to be swallowed up in the earnestness.

The force of the wind resists the humidity. The weight of the rain falling like a waterfall. The climatic phenomena that symbolize the dry and rainy seasons remind us of the human weakness that we must not forget.

When the wind blows, a small kite swims in the sky. When it rains, bright raincoats decorate the streets. The improvised scenes of play and color that we sometimes see in this country are lovely "moments" that appear in a chaotic world.

The reality of people living in this country lies in the fact that there is a sense of urgency toward the real world, while at the same time there is a sense of ease in surrendering oneself to the improvised play.

The paper and string of a kite. The plastic of rain gear. I will try to read the "weak materials" that make up a scene for a moment as a medium that holds up the faint "voice" of one person, and as a canvas that carries the certain "color" of one person. As a means of demonstration to avoid being swallowed up by reality. At the same time, it is a mechanism for an exhibition that improvises our art.

The "Museum of a Moment" is a project to create a new reality where earnestness and play intersect.

ステートメント

熱帯の島々つらなる国、インドネシア。多様性の宝庫であるはずの其の地は揺れている。激動の政治情勢、開発されつづける首都、収まらないテロ、鳴り止まないデモ。先の見えない世界にわたしの皮膚は触れて、震える。

けれど、切実さに呑み込まれることを、熱帯の気まぐれは許しちゃくれない。

湿気に抵抗する風のいきおい。滝のように落ちてくる雨の重み。乾季と雨季を象徴する気候現象は、忘れちゃいけない人間の弱さを思い出させてくれる。

風吹くときには、小さな凧が空を泳ぐ。雨降るときには、鮮やかな雨具が道を彩る。この国で時おり目にする即興的な遊びと彩りの光景は、混沌とした世界に出現する愛おしい「ひととき」だ。

現実社会への切実さの一方で、即興の遊びに身を委ねるゆるやかさが同時に存在するところに、この国に生きる人びとのリアリティがある。

凧の紙と糸。雨具のビニール。ひとときの光景をつくる「弱い素材」を、ひとりの微かな「声」を掲げるメディアに、ひとりの確かな「色」を乗せるカンヴァスへ、読み換えてみる。現実に呑みこまれないための、デモンストレーションの手段として。同時に、私たちのアートを即興するエキシビションの仕組みとして。

切実さと遊びが交差する、あたらしい現実をつくるプロジェクト、それが「ひとときのミュージアム」。

Momentary Museum is a project born from a focus on the "improvisational culture" of Indonesia. For example, we can see a lot of kites in the sky during the season of blowing wind. By capturing the moment when the wind blows and citing the culture of people playing with kites, this project aims to turn our sky into a "museum of a moment" where everyone can express themselves. Some of the kites have the letters of the alphabet painted on them, and several people can fly these kites to send a message to the sky. This new form of kite play is a new way of demonstrating to society, and it is also a new form of art museum where everyone can participate and use kites as a support for expression. In other words, the Momentary Museum is a "critical play" on our society and the museum.　　　

概要

《モーメンタリー・ミュージアム》は、インドネシアの「即興的な文化」に着目することから生まれたプロジェクトである。例えば、風が吹くと、街の上空に多くの凧が浮かぶ。このプロジェクトでは、風が吹く瞬間を捉えて人びとが凧で遊ぶ文化を引用することで、わたしたちの空を誰もが自らを表現することを可能にする「ひとときのミュージアム」に変えることを企てる。いくつかの凧には、一文字ずつのアルファベットが描かれており、数人でこれらの凧を飛ばすことで、上空にメッセージを掲げることもできる。ここでの新たな凧遊びは、社会に対するデモンストレーションの新たな手段であり、だれしもが参加し凧を表現の支持体にすることで美術館の新たな形式とも言える。すなわち、《モーメンタリー・ミュージアム》とは、私たちの社会と美術館に対する「批評的な遊び」なのである。
